The best testament I can give for Jack Ryan is that the people who actually do the espionage, counter-terrorism, drug trafficking, and military life that Clancy writes about rave about these books. More than being entertaining, Jack Ryan tells a story about why people make life and limb sacrifices, he’s a husband and father with normal fears and asperations who makes extraordinary decisions when the heat is on. As long as there are wolves we need sheepdogs. As long as there is cancer we need surgeons. These books highlight what the cancer of the human race looks like and what the “surgeons” do to eliminate it (terrorists, etc.) before it kills the cells (fellow humans) around it. The amazon series largely misses the human and heroic elements, favoring instead James bond style action. What a pity! Verdict: Recommend
